Highly Figured Spalted Maple Magnetic Knife Pebble - 4 Knives (E)
This stunning piece of maple comes from a tree that lived a hard life.
The striped and shimmering appearance of the wood, also known as chatoyancy or figuring, is the result of a tree growing under a lot of stress. This stress causes the wood grain to fold back on itself over and over as the tree grew. The black streaking in the wood is what ultimately took this tree down; a fungal infection.
This unique and visually stunning pattern is created by the interaction of fungi with the maple tree, causing pigmentation changes and creating a mesmerizing display of contrasting colours. Spalted maple is a favoured choice among those who appreciate the beauty of wood with a story to tell.
Two powerful rare-earth magnets hold each knife securely in place and evenly spaced out across the length of the pebble. The even spacing of the magnetic zones prevents knives from making contact with each other, potentially damaging the blades or dulling the cutting edge. This pebble contains four pairs of magnets, allowing for up to 4 large steel knives to be held in place.
The knife pebbles can be secured to the wall by two means: either by drilling two screws into the wall to correspond with the keyhole slots on the back of the pebble, or with strips of 3M high strength double sided foam tape (this tape can be applied upon request, free of charge).
